The project is the construction of Additional Carriageway of N-5. The project route traverses on the eastern bank of River Indus, from Hala in South km 0+00 to Moro in north km 114+00. The total executed length of the project is 114 kilometres. The work was awarded by NHA on 12th October, 1992. An order to commence was received by the selected contractor M/s. L&M International (Pte) Ltd., on 1st August, 1993 and the date of commencement was 28th April, 1993 for allowable duration of 608 calendar days.
The project was originally scheduled for completion on 26th December, 1994, however, was extended for completion on 26th June, 1996, and later to December 1997. The original project comprises of providing an additional carriageway of N-5 highway and four bypasses namely Hala Bypass, Saeedabad Bypass, Sakrand Bypass and Daulatpur Bypass.
On completion, the physical features of carriageway comprise of AC pavement of effective width of 7.3 meters and strengthened (DBST) shoulders, 3 meters wide on outer side and 2.5 meters wide on median side. It includes 7 bridges and 128 box & pipe culverts.
The pavement thicknesses are:
Sub Base 30 cm
Aggregate Base 20 cm
Asphaltic Base, Binder + Wearing Course 18 cm
The horizontal geometry of the additional carriageway has been improved wherever feasible under the TOR whereas the vertical profile generally follows that of the existing carriageway with slight improvements. Some traffic safety gear/information devices are planned to be provided at the completion of the project.
