Project Description
This project is the construction of the additional carriageway of N-5. The project starts from Ubaro to 20 km beyond Rahim Yar Khan. The cumulative executed length of the project is 82 km. The work was awarded by NHA on 27th May, 1993. An order to commence was received by the selected contractor M/s. Saadullah Khan & Bros on June 16, 1993 and date of commencement of the project was 10th January, 1994 for allowable duration of 730 calendar days.
The project was originally scheduled for completion on 9th January, 1996, however, was extended for completion on November 9, 1996 and later to May 9, 1997.On completion the physical features of the carriageway comprise of A.C pavement of effective width of 7.3 meters with 3.0 meters wide outer shoulders and 2.0 meters wide inner shoulders (DBST). It has 3 bridges, 8 box culverts and 111 pipe culverts.
The pavement thickness are:
Sub Base 15 cm
Aggregate Base 20 cm
Asphaltic Base 24 cm
Asphaltic Wearing Course 5 cm
The horizontal geometry of the additional carriageway has been improved wherever feasible under the TOR whereas the vertical profile generally follows that of the existing carriageway with slight improvements. Some traffic safety gear/information devices were provided on the completed carriageway comprising of traffic signs, gantry, road marking (partially) and kilometre posts.
